What is Bioheat® Home Heating Oil?
When some people think of heating oil, they still think of the fuel their grandparents used, which produced black smoke and soot. But today’s heating oil has come a long way. Tasha Fuels & Propane is proud to deliver a fuel product that is at the cutting edge of sustainable home comfort — Bioheat® Fuel.
Bioheat® fuel is a blend of ultra-low-sulfur heating oil (ULSHO) and biofuel.
ULSHO contains 15 parts per million (ppm) or less of sulfur (compared to 5,000 ppm for standard petroleum-based fuel).
Bioheat® oil is a cleaner gallon-for-gallon replacement for petroleum, made with organic and recycled products such as:
- canola oil
- inedible corn oil
- soybean oil
- used cooking oil
- tallow
- animal fats
- algae
This renewable fuel is a U.S.-made product that supports American farmers and energy producers. Also, the oils and fats used as feedstock are natural byproducts of food production.

Bioheat® oil is great for the planet — and your home!
We’re all concerned about the harmful effects of climate change on our planet. Bioheat® fuel oil is an essential tool in combatting greenhouse gas emissions.
It reduces emissions by at least 50% compared to petroleum. According to the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA), a 2% blend of Bioheat® oil has the same amount of greenhouse gas emissions as natural gas. However, Tasha Fuels & Propane uses a higher blend, so our heating oil has fewer emissions than natural gas!
You can use Bioheat® fuel in your current oil-fired heating equipment without making any modifications. Also, Bioheat® fuel has the highest BTU content of any alternative fuel, meaning that you can heat your home with less oil. Bioheat® heating oil leaves very little to no deposits on your system’s heat exchangers. This will save you money on maintenance and repairs while extending the lifespan of your boiler or furnace!
Believe it or not, Bioheat® heating oil is so clean that the heating equipment that uses it isn’t even regulated under the Federal Clean Air Act!
The future of heating oil is bright!
The good news is that the heating oil industry is working toward even more environmentally friendly products. Bioheat® fuel producers are on pace to achieve a 50% blend of ULSHO and biofuel. Widespread use of the B50 blend will eliminate 4.29 million metric tons of carbon from the air!
Furthermore, the industry is making fantastic strides in developing cleaner and more efficient processes for producing biofuel. This includes advances for converting otherwise unused biomass — like cornstalks or wheat straw — into usable biofuel.
